Apple added many latest features to Spotlight in OS X 10.10 Yosemite. The list by new capabilities includes searching the App Store Wikipedia page and the quick calculation. For some however Spotlight would benefit from additional features and the capabilities.
E.g. wouldn't it be nice to search Google or Amazon directly from Spotlight? What about getting current weathers by on an forecast as the next few day? Or running Terminal command without actually launching Terminal? All would be receive additions right?
You can add that functionality to the Spotlight by downloading an free apps called Flashlight.
The apps are currently in what amount to an alpha stage. By installing Flashlight and the activating it various plugins you are able to add extra features to Spotlight with little effort on your part.
And for the motivated developer who has an idea to he or she would like to see in Spotlight you can create your own plugins for Flashlight.
Download the free app here open the ZIP file and place it in your Application folder. Double-click the app icons and enable the plugins you prefer to use. Hints with how to apply each search query and plugin are listed in each plugin's description.
